Health Tip: Vaccines Are Important for Adults, Too

(HealthDay News) -- Children aren't the only ones who need protection against a host of dangerous germs, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says.

Vaccines that you receive as a child may wear off over time, the agency says. The list of vaccinations that you'll need as an adult will vary, based on your age, lifestyle, travel, health conditions and job.

Nonetheless, the agency says all adults should make sure they're up to date on vaccines for:

  • Seasonal flu.
  • Pertussis (whooping cough).
  • Tetanus and diphtheria.
  • Shingles (adults over 50).
  • Pneumococcal disease (adults 65 and older, or who smoke or have certain health conditions).
